SUNY Stony Brook's first Second Life region was purchased in December 2007 by the Department of Medical Informatics, School of Medicine. The region current supports classes being taught at Stony Brook, as well as, various projects being done to explore the potential uses of Second Life and virtual worlds in general for academics and research at Stony Brook.
